Learn about the blood sugar, glucose, insulin, hypo- and hyperglycemia and the normal blood sugar levels in the next.

The sugar, also known as the glucose is a component of the blood and it will present every time you eat some sweets or carbohydrates. The blood sugar levels are arranged and set to be normal by the substance called insulin, which is actually a hormone secreted by the pancreas when the sugar levels in our blood stream get higher.

But what are the normal blood sugar levels? The normal blood sugar levels are somewhere between 70 and 140 mg, so if your blood sugar is situated in between these values, you have normal blood sugar levels. If your blood sugar is lower or higher than the average figures than you will have to worry. A higher blood sugar level than the normal blood sugar levels lead to hyperglycemia, and if this is regular, it results in diabetes. Diabetes is actually a disease that results from an insufficiency of insulin production which cannot deal with the glucose and carbohydrates that you consume on a daily basis. Diabetes can be manageable by administrating insulin on a regular basis (daily), but if diabetes or hyperglycemia is not controlled, it will lead to damage in the nervous system, poor eye sight, kidney failure and sometimes even the amputation of a limb is necessary.

On the other hand, the figures that fall under the normal blood sugar levels will result in hypoglycemia, which is also a severe condition. Some of the symptoms of hypoglycemia are fatigue, irritability, exhaustion, memory loss and impaired mental performance.

The blood sugar or the glucose can be measured whenever you want and especially when you have a diabetes history in the family or some of the above mentioned hypoglycemia symptoms. So, when going for a routine check, do a glucose test as well, to see if you have normal blood sugar levels. If these tests show signs of irregularities from the normal figures, the test will be repeated during several times of the day, and the idea for normal blood sugar levels is to have figures that vary very little from one hour of the day to the other.

It’s better to know that you have normal blood sugar levels, so get a test as soon as possible, and see your results. Monitoring your blood pressure is important especially if your have a predisposition to diabetes.
