A recent poll by Shopsmart magazine states that women who use their loyalty cards in conjunction with coupons can save $168 on their grocery bill. That's quite a decent amount considering the times that our economy is facing currently. Here are some of my tips to keep your savings to a maximum:
1. Shop online - If you plan on shopping for groceries, you can get a good collection of coupons from places such as smartsource.com and coupons.com. If you plan on buying goods such as electronics or computers, plan on going to online coupon code places first to get money off your purchase. I visited couponloco and got a Kohls coupon that helped me get free shipping on my purchases along with 10% off. I got a free 2 week trial for Netflix using the Netflix coupon code provided by couponloco as well. You are bound to save a lot shopping online because the online market is much more competitive than going to a store directly.
If you plan to shop for just groceries here are some other tips:
1. Don't look in the middle shelves - These are the products that are at eye level and ones that the grocery shops want you to purchase. By looking below or above, you may see better bargains.
2. Buy store brand products - If you look at the ingredients, you will see that sometimes store brand products carry the exact same ingredients. Try them out, you will find it surprisingly similar to the brand name and you may save some bucks.
3. Consider buying in bulk - It is a wise investment for products you know you will consume if you purchase items in bulk. Costco, Sams Club, Food4Less are the most well known places to purchase items in bulk.
4. Stock up - When coupons are available, stock up on sale items, especially if they are cans or other goods that have long term expiration dates.
5. Shop at ethnic markets - Most of the time they are much cheaper than your local supermarket chains which charge an arm and a leg by the time you are done. Ethnic markets have much more bargains and may be able to save you substantially.
