George Clooney is not just a pretty face. Teaming up with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon they have generously helped the United Nations World Food Program – on the occasion of the Darfur genocide and to help the needy in this region.
If you are wondering what’s up lately with George Clooney, aside form the fact that he has been in the Michael Clayton movie, he has also found some time to give from what he’s got. Together with his Ocean’s 11 and Ocean’s 12 team- Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, George Clooney reached inside his pocket to give donations for the Darfur genocide. Clooney and his Ocean’s 11 and Ocean’s 12 buddies have also helped a lot in gathering some money for Darfur, under the headlines of the United Nations World Food Program. Darfur is a troubled region in Sudan where the war has had a great impact ever since 2003 when it started, bringing along many refugees that need help and food. Darfur is still a territory that is in between the conflict of the Sudanese government and non Arab rebels, which has been a blood-spattered divergence.
The Darfur genocide has drawn the interest of George Clooney, who has teamed up with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle to gather some money to help the hunger in the region. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle have chosen to have a humanitarian organization of their own, naming it simply: Not on Our Watch. On this occasion, Clooney and co. have succeeded in raising a donation of half a million for the United Nations World Food Program that will go towards Darfur. Without aid, the region of Darfur and the inhabitants will be endangered and will suffer from hunger.
However, the Not on Our Watch organization is up and running for a while now, George Clooney and his Ocean’s 12 friends being active and present where donations were needed. The Not on Our Watch organization has also helped to generously raise one million dollars for the United Nations World Food Program in 2007.
Still, the World Food Program has done some calculations, and there is still need for more money to be able to help the needy from all around the globe. The required money is somewhere around $75 million, but George Clooney’s intervention made a difference, and if there were another 75 organizations similar to Clooney and Brad Pitt’s one, the world would surely be a better place.
