Fool’s Gold is a brand new movie released in February 2008, staring Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey and Donald Sutherland.
An exotic location, a lot of luxurious boats and yachts, divers, two divorcees who are still in love with each other and a treasure: these are the starting ingredients of Fool’s Gold, which is a comedy mixed with a bit of romance.
Matthew McConaughey who plays the role of Ben Finn Finnegan is obsessed with a treasure that is said to be at the bottom of the sea in the whereabouts of the place he is living in. meanwhile, his wife (Kate Hudson) files for divorce, willing to end the marriage for no precise reasons. Still, the love is alive, and it will be lit by the treasure hunt which starts with a promising clue.
At the same time the Fool’s Gold movie reveals more treasure hunters after the Queen’s Dowry, a treasure which dates back in 1715 and has been under the sea ever since. In the search for the treasure and the gold, Matthew McConaughey- Ben loses all, including his dear boat, which after the divorce belongs actually to Tess (Kate Hudson). However, the two exes are helped by the rich Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland) in their search for the treasure, Nigel being impressed by the ancient story of the treasure. Nigel is also the employer of Tess.
The ending is predictable but all in all Fool’s Gold is a light and unpretentious comedy that is excellent to pass an evening, and is perfectly suitable when you want a thin story in an exotic place which implies treasure hunting as well as a bit of love.
Fool’s Gold is not a movie for skeptics, those who hate romance and those who want a serious movie.
