A two man show that stars two major names in the film business: Michael Cane and Jude Law- this is Sleuth in just a few words. The 2007 Sleuth is an outstanding film- play that is worth 87 minutes of your time.
The 2007 Sleuth is a remake of the homonymous film from the year 1972. The fun part is that the story remains the same, and even one of the actors will be imported in the 2007 Sleuth. The difference is that Michael Cane is now playing the part of the older character, while back in 1972 he was the younger one playing one on one with Lawrence Olivier. In the 2007 Sleuth movie, the part of the younger character- an Italian actor is played by Jude Law. The 2007 Sleuth presents Michael Cane in the role of a senior writer (Andrew Wyke) who was left by his wife to go with the younger actor played by Jude Law. As a matter of fact, there are only two characters in the entire Sleuth movie, both in 2007 and 1972, and even if the wife/mistress is the subject of the discussions, she does never appear (except for a photo where one can only see her attractive legs). The writer has money, but no love, the actor has love but no money, however they are both endowed with shrewdness and brains. And this will make the film very entertaining.
The plot takes place in Cane’s huge mansion and basically it is a series of mind games, where the two characters try to outwit each other in several surprise scenarios. They would like to do an insurance fraud, where both end up with a lot of money
(one stealing the other getting the money from the insurance)- the actor (Milo Tindle) being thus able to pay for the whims of the writer’s wife, sponsored by the writer himself. There are all sorts of awkward situations which deploy in the Sleuth movie. Where all these will lead, you’ll see. The director of the Sleuth movie, the famous Kenneth Branagh has also directed other movie-plays such as Othello, Hamlet and other Shakespeare plays. These prior experiences have left a soft touch on the 2007 Sleuth as well.
If you like theater plays and a witty development of the plot, you will surely like 2007 Sleuth. In many ways, Sleuth resembles a theater play and will please those viewers who like theater.
