It’s not a joke, if you are a keen eater and you enjoy eating food in large quantities, the competitive eating is a sport for you.

Ever since 1997, competitive eating is an approved sport. The International Federation of Competitive Eating Inc. (IFOCE) is an organization that has its primary goal to hold competitive eating competitions in the US and other parts of the globe as well. But who had the idea of organizing competitive eating competitions? The Shea brothers: George and Richard thought it was a good thing to eat in competitions. You must love eating and food to have thought of such a thing. The basic idea in the competitive eating is to eat as much as you can in a given amount of time. The rest is food, food, food.

There are several categories when it comes to competitive eating competitions: you can get hot dogs, hamburgers or you can join the Wing Bowl eating competition.
As in any other serious sport, there are also champions in competitive eating. The IFOCE has designated its number one eater as being James Fenn. There are also other famous eaters such as Takeru Kobayashi, Joey Chestnut and there are even women who enjoy the competitive eating. Sonia Thomas is a great example of a fine woman that worship food and loves to eat.

The International Federation of Competitive Eating is presently holding over 100 competitive eating shows, and they are thinking about doing some others as well. The IFOCE has its main office in New York, but there are clubs open in Europe- UK, Germany, and also Canada, Thailand and Japan. However, you must be 18 or over to be able to compete in the eating contests.
The top prize in competitive eating is the Coveted Mustard Yellow Belt, and it is currently in the possession of Joey Chestnut.

All in all, eating can be a sport. If you love food and would like to have large amounts of it, join the competition now. Or, you can enjoy the show from home and watch the competition on TV as the Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest is being broadcasted live. So, watch the Discovery Channel and the Travel Chanel and don’t miss on fun and food.
